On February 20, 1999, when the Pokémon episode "The Song of Jigglypuff" was about to be air, the Pokémon intro was interrupted by a television static, after which the 1983 Golgo 13: The Professional intro in slow appeared. The transmission then blacked out for a few seconds before resuming the Pokémon episode in progress; the hijack lasted for 3 minutes.
Kids' WB found that its engineers were unable to stop the hijacker due to the fact that there were no engineers on duty at its headquarters at the time of the hijacking. Technicians monitoring the transmission from Kids' WB headquarters "attempted to take corrective measures, but couldn't". "By the time our people began looking into what was going on, it was over," he told the Chicago Tribune. Kids' WB was able to find copies of the hijacker's telecast with the help of Pokémon fans who had been taping the show.
The incident made national headlines and the hijacker responsible, is probably Akira Takamoto (高本明 Takamoto Akira).
